14-11-2012 at 17:00: Gifts for Kids at Melbourne Motorcycle Expo

Visitors heading along to the Australian Motorcycle Expo Melbourne can show their support for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal by bringing along a gift or an item of non-perishable food to add to the MRAV Toyrun hampers.

The Toyrun attracts thousands of motorcycle riders, many of which dress their bikes, scooters and trikes with Christmas decorations, who get together and ride in support of the Appeal which seeks to brighten the festive season for families and kids.

Organiser, fundraiser and part-time ‘professional Santa’ Kerry Walton will be staffing the MRAV Toyrun booth at the November 23-25 event and hoped motorcycle enthusiasts would get behind the important cause.

Walton has had an active involvement with the event for close to 20 years, and said the generosity and spirit of riders never ceased to amaze.

“This will be our 35th Toyrun and it’s a great way for the motorcycle community to show its support for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal by bringing a gift or some non-perishable food for the Christmas hampers,” said Walton.

“Thousands upon thousands of Victorians and even riders from interstate get together in huge columns or runs, some under full police escort, to travel out to Calder Park and drop off the gifts.

“It’s the largest charity run of its type in the Southern Hemisphere and we’re hoping that motorcycle riders can either get along early and give a gift or some food at the Australian Motorcycle Expo or join us on the 9th of December for a full day of entertainment and activities.”

His red tuktuk dressed in Christmas trim is one of the more distinct rides to take part in the event.

The Australian Motorcycle Expo Melbourne will be held at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre, with over 135 exhibitors signed on to confirm it as the largest standalone motorcycle show of its kind in the country.
