28-10-2012 at 23:00: Audi Limited Editions Arrive

Audi Australia has welcomed a new Limited Edition to their line-up in the form of the S6 Sedan and S7 Sportback.

The new models have just been launched in Australia and offer strong performance and a touch of elegance plus everyday practicality.

An all-new power plant will power the Limited Editions in Australia and they come with plenty of power and a low fuel consumption rating. The V8 4.0-litre biturboTFSI provides 309kW with 550Nm of torque. The all-new engine also includes cylinder-on-demand which switches off four of the eight cylinders under lighter engine loads.

The introduction of the cylinder-on-demand is a significant contributor to efficient driving with the S6 Sedan and S7 Sportback to deliver a fuel consumption reading of just 9.6 l/100km.

While the S6 Sedan loses the V10-power the all-new 4.0 TFSI biturbo V8 engine makes up for any thought of lost power. With this engine line-up the S6 becomes the fastest ever S6 Sedan launched by Audi, reaching 100 km/h from standstill in just 4.6 seconds. The top speed of the S6 sedan is limited to 250km/h. The new Audi S6 has an MLP of $168,900.

The first-ever S7 Sportback model to be launched does share the same drivetrain as the S6 sedan but has a slightly slower 0 – 100km/h rate. The S7 Sportback reaches 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. Its top speed is also limited to 250 km/h and is priced at $179,900 (MLP).

Both of these highly attractive, potent sportscars will be offered in Australia in limited number. Just 50 of each model will be available to Australia’s and this is due to strong global demand. Both vehicles offer a very high level of standard specification.

For both models, power is transferred to all four wheels via the seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission, and quattro drivetrain technology. The S6 limited edition models also include the quattro sports differential as standard, which can distribute almost all of the available engine torque to the rear wheel that requires it most, to ensure exceptional dynamics are always available to the driver.

Despite this incredible performance, the S6 sedan and S7 Sportback employ the very latest measures available from the Audi Modular Efficiency Platform to ensure fuel consumption is class-leading.

Start-stop technology rests the engine when the vehicle is stationary to save fuel, while a variety of exotic metals are used in the engine’s construction to ensure friction remains very low. An innovative thermal management system is able to heat up or cool down the engine very quickly as required, to ensure that the engine is always operating at its optimum, and in turn drives down fuel consumption and emissions.

To counter any unwanted acoustics that cylinder-on-demand may encourage, two innovative solutions have been found. Active engine mounts offset second-order engine vibrations which occur in four-cylinder mode by generating phase-shifted counter-vibrations. Whenever the new Active Noise Control (ANC) system recognises unwanted noises through tiny microphones hidden in the vehicle’s headlining, it emits a precisely modulated cancellation sound via the sound system’s loudspeakers. It counteracts the noise so effectively that passengers will not hear it and works even when the sound system’s volume is low, muted or switched off.

Standard specification highlights of these high-performance thoroughbreds include:
