27-09-2012 at 11:00: Martin Cool in the Heat

The next round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) is at the home of motorsport in the Middle East, Bahrain. Australian John Martin is currently in final preparations for what is expected to be a hot race.

Having never raced at this eight year old circuit, Martin has been busy preparing as he is keen to collect more points for his championship at the sixth round of the WEC championship.

“Well, it’s another new circuit to learn, a bit like Interlagos was, and we got on top of that one pretty quickly so hopefully Bahrain will be no different.

I’ve spent a bit of time in the simulator trying to get up to speed and I think I’ve got my head around the circuit, but we won’t really know until practice,” Martin said.

This round of the WEC sees drivers starting in the afternoon and racing into the night finishing at 10pm, giving the drivers an opportunity to show their skill in changing conditions.

“It’s going to be quite hot out there; I’ve seen the forecast and it’s going to be about 40 degrees (Celsius) every day, but in saying that, the race and practice sessions are in the afternoon going into the night.

“The start of the race on Saturday will be quite hot, but the race runs through till 10o’clock at night so there will be quite a lot of changes over the race duration,” Martin said.

The ADR Delta team is sitting in second place in the LMP2 class of the championship with 96 points but is looking for their chance to claw back the gap to first.

“For us, the Interlagos round was not so good for championship points, so we’re looking to turn that around at Bahrain, hopefully; we’re looking okay at this stage so we’ll just have to wait and see,” Martin said.
