10-09-2012: Ford Reduces Fiesta

Competitiveness is something that all car manufactures have as they fight for market share in the very populated market. Ford has thrown a curve ball when they announced they are reducing the price of the Fiesta hatch range.

Not only have the prices been reduced but some models in the range have received upgrades to improve safety and quality.

The entry level CL has been enhanced with the standard inclusion of side curtain/thorax and driver’s knee airbag as standard, as well as a seatbelt reminder.

Previously this safety equipment was available as standard on the LX and Zetec but was a $600 “safety pack” option on the CL.

With the safety upgrades to the WT Fiesta range not only does the whole range now receive a 5-star Australian New Car Assessment Program rating but it brings it into line with the entire Ford passenger car line-up, which is 5-star.

“Our Fiesta customers clearly value safety as a priority,” said Ford Australia general manager marketing, David Katic.

“So we’ve responded by making the Safety Pack standard.

“The Fiesta is a clear example that a safe car doesn’t have to be heavy or large. Fiesta has it all; safety, good design and dynamic driving character that our customers have come to expect from a Ford.”

The highly equipped Fiesta comes standard with a range of features, including Bluetooth with Voice Control as standard.

It has also earned credit for its advanced safety. Last year it was named the first light car to earn a “Top Safety Pick” from the United States Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Fiesta’s energy-absorbing body structure is optimised for strength and stiffness and designed to absorb and redirect crash forces away from the passenger compartment.

The entry Fiesta CL manual now has a Manufacturer’s List Price (MLP) of $15,490; the LX manual $17,790; and the Zetec manual $20,490. This represents a saving of $1500 for the CL, $1200 for the LX petrol and diesel and $500 for the Zetec petrol and diesel.
