Hyundai Motor Company’s global alignment with the International Cricket Council (ICC) as Official Car Partner is being further enhanced by Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s local involvement with the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012.

Hyundai is the Official Car partner of the tournament which brings together the rising stars of Australia’s favourite summertime sport, cricket. The ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012 draws together the great cricket nations of Australia, India and England to compete in a 16 strong line-up of international under-19 teams, all fighting for the honour of becoming world champions.

Billed as the ‘finishing school’ for cricket stars of the future and a highly regarded launching pad for the players, the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup provides a unique opportunity for emerging talent to be discovered and to break into the sport at an international level.

The one-day tournament, now in its ninth year, commences with the Australian team taking on England on August 11th, in Townsville. All matches will be played throughout August in Queensland at the three host locations of Brisbane, Townsville and the Sunshine Coast; with a final showdown scheduled for the 26th August in Townsville.

The association sees Hyundai Motor Company Australia providing a total fleet of 38 vehicles including the multi-award winning iMax people mover, stylish i45 sedan, Santa Fe, and versatile i40 Tourer. The vehicles proudly bear unique tournament insignia, and will be used to transport ICC and Cricket Australia officials and international team managers.

The official handover ceremony took place on the 10th August at the Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville. Edward Lee, CEO of Hyundai Motor Company Australia and Andrew Symonds, an Ambassador for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012 attended the event.

“Cricket has long been an Australian obsession during the summer months,” said Edward Lee, Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s CEO.

“The ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012 is a great opportunity for us to combine a nation’s passion with Hyundai’s dedication to sport in Australia. We are delighted to be associated with such a high profile international tournament.”

Hyundai Motor Company Australia has a long association with the support of grassroots sport and youth-talent promotion having created the Hyundai A-League Grassroots national program which donates funds to junior football clubs. As well as being the supporter behind the Hyundai Hopman Cup Tennis Aces initiative.

“It’s great to be involved with the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012,” said Andrew Symonds, an Ambassador for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012.

“Having played in U19 cricket myself, I know how exciting and important it is for these young players competing at this event. It’s great to see Hyundai getting involved in this great game.”
