27-08-2012: ix35 Adds Spec and Powertrain

Hyundai’s ix35 line-up has been updated and will be spearheaded by the introduction of the ix35 Elite 2WD petrol automatic model. This new model will complement the ix35 Active 2WD entry model and in addition, the entire ix35 range benefits from a number of specification enhancements.

The ix35 Active model receives a new touch-screen audio system. As well as a new powertrain combination, the ix35 Elite models add climate control, electro-chromatic mirror, rear view camera and satellite navigation, while the ix35 Highlander models gain Hyundai’s Satellite Navigation system.

Hyundai’s 2.0-litre ‘Theta II’ petrol engine is now available in the mid-trim Elite models generating a peak power output of 122 kW @ 6200 rpm, and maximum torque of 197 Nm @ 4600 rpm. The 2.0-litre engine is married to a six-speed automatic transmission with sequential manual mode to deliver a smooth, measured performance with combined fuel economy of 8.5L/100 km*.

The ix35 Active models now come with a 5” touch-screen audio system streamlined into the centre console and incorporating six speakers and tweeters. The system features cutting edge functionality including iPod & Bluetooth connectivity (telephone hands-free and audio streaming), in-dash CD player, USB / Auxiliary inputs, MP3 functionality with Album Art display and media ripping / storage.

The ix35 Elite models now feature an electro-chromatic rear-view mirror with auto-dimming function, providing better visibility during night time driving by reducing the glare caused by headlights from vehicles following behind. The mirror also houses a handy compass. The inclusion of full auto and dual-zone climate control ensures the maintenance of a consistent desired cabin temperature and includes a cluster ionizer and external temperature display.

Focusing on Hyundai’s commitment to safety, the ix35 Elite models now benefit from the inclusion of a rear view camera with display integrated into the satellite navigation screen. The rear mounted camera detects objects which may otherwise be out of the driver’s sight, as well as assisting with parking or manoeuvring the vehicle in tight spaces. The camera automatically operates when reverse gear is engaged.

Both Elite and Highlander models receive the all-new Hyundai Satellite Navigation system. The multimedia system operates from a 6.5” touch screen, integrated into the centre stack offering finger-tip control for front seat occupants. The state-of-the-art system offers features including SUNA live traffic updates, a comprehensive Point of Interest (POI) database, and Navteq maps with a three year MapCare plan.

Key features of the system include; 6.5” full map colour display (2D/3D), split screen/touchscreen, motorway junction views, lane guidance, speed warnings, 3D landmark visuals, multi-route planning (fast, short, eco) and detour function and address input with intelligent typewriter.

Perhaps the most effective navigation feature for driver assistance, SUNA™ Traffic Updates provides real-time traffic information to notify of congestion, roadwork and incidents along a projected route. In the event a delay is reported, the system will analyse alternate routes and if possible, offer a faster detour.
