02-07-2012: Fight in the Night

The Australian Manufacturers Championship in conjunction with the Shannon’s Nationals and Queensland Raceway are preparing for an amazing 400km event. The AMC Hydraulink 400 “Fight in the Night” will be spread over two nights and the highlight event will occur on Saturday the 11th of August commencing at 5.45pm.

Both 200km night races are expected to be contested by significant numbers in all classes and local teams feature high on the radar. Queensland’s own Wilson Brothers Racing competing in a two car Subaru WRX attack on class A are coming into this event with high expectations, this is their home track and the Subaru is well suited to the Ipswich layout, meaning the dominance of the Mitsubishi Evo X’s will definitely be tested.

Queensland will also see the return of Greg Symes and Glenn Seton in their Mitsubishi Evo IX which suffered considerable damage at last year’s Eastern Creek 8 hour. Greg also lost a close friend and employee in a bus crash which really shook the whole team. The team is looking forward to returning to the series in a competitive way.

Meanwhile  another Queenslander, Jake Camilleri racing in the Class C Mazda MPS is looking forward to chasing down some of the other more fancied cars for outright honours as well as chasing victory at home in class.

Class D is one of the most hotly contested classes in the category and this event will be no different. With up to 7 entries expected in this class alone, it is any ones guess who will be on top of the podium at the conclusion of Sunday’s race.

Class E will be fought out between the two front runners in this class, Pedders Racing’s Grant Phillips, Andrew Turpie and Daryl Martin in their Proton Satria. They will be forced to work hard against the all girl pairing of Maddison Gray and Samantha Bennett in their Toyota Echo along with a swarm of Suzuki Swifts from the Australian Swift Series.

Saturday night’s race will not only be an exciting highlight on the racing calendar, but it will also be capped off with a fireworks display, the likes of which the category and the series has not yet seen.

A true spectator friendly event and venue is set to become a spectacular part of the series for years to come and all of the competitors and their teams continue to prepare their cars to show the people of South East Queensland that Production Car Racing is alive and well in this country.

The Australian Manufacturers Championship Hydraulink 400 “Fight in the Night” Will be held from August 10 to 12, 2012 at Queensland Raceway, Ipswich.
