08-05-2012 at 09:00: First Australian Dealers for Infiniti

Infiniti Cars Australia has started phase one of their Australian attack with the announcement of their first authorised retail partners.

The performance luxury car manufacturer from Japan has partnered with three of Australia’s most experienced and respected luxury car retailers to establish and operate the country’s first official Infiniti retail centres in time for the brand’s start of local sales this August.

These first appointments are the culmination of an extensive industry-wide search and are the first of a number the company has planned as Infiniti implements the initial phase of its long-term retail plans for the Australian luxury car market.

Australia’s first official Infiniti retail centres will be situated in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Plans for the first authorised Infiniti centres in both Perth and Adelaide, targeted to open in 2013, are currently underway.

Suttons Motors Group has been appointed Infiniti’s first official retail partner in Sydney, Australia’s largest capital city. Suttons is Australia’s largest family-owned automotive dealer group and is currently developing an impressive inner-city-based Infiniti retail showroom and dedicated service facility.

Infiniti Cars Australia has appointed Penfold Motors, one of Australia’s most respected auto businesses, to develop and operate Infiniti’s first Victorian retail centre. Penfolds boasts 50 years of experience in automotive retailing and is in the process of readying its boutique showroom.

Infiniti’s first official retail partner in Brisbane is A.P. Eagers. This national automotive retail group, which employs around 2,900 staff, is one of the country’s largest with close to 100 dealerships across Australia.

These first independent appointees exceeded the selection criteria set by Infiniti Cars Australia, which included the ability to deliver personalised and unique customer service, a proven record of exceptional customer satisfaction, and provision of suitably skilled and experienced brand-dedicated teams for both sales and management functions.

Australia’s first Infiniti Retail Centres will be stand-alone stores styled according to Infiniti’s global retail centre design standards, a project spearheaded by leading Melbourne architectural practice Graphos Architects. In a break with long-standing automotive industry practice, Infiniti’s retail centres will resemble boutique luxury hotels more than traditional car dealerships, especially with regard to their interior designs and overall customer experience. The move constitutes one of the marque’s many points of difference, reflecting the uniqueness of both its customer hospitality and range of exciting cars.

“Announcing our first Australian retail partners today is another exciting milestone,” said Kevin Snell, General Manager of Infiniti Cars Australia.

“I’m delighted that three of Australia’s highest-calibre automotive retail groups have chosen to partner with Infiniti on this exciting journey.”

Snell explained Infiniti’s Australian retail model is built according to the needs of his business’s most important people.

“Fundamentally, we work for our customers and retailers.”

“Our extensive research and consultation have established each of their specific needs,” Snell said. “Since the global financial crisis these have evolved and are today quite different.

“Therefore, we have tailored a retail model according to these particular needs. This framework will allow us to successfully implement our Total Ownership Experience philosophy, which will give our customers a luxury retail experience that is more personalised, intimate, convenient and enjoyable. It will also support the long-term success of our retail partners.

“In short, our retail model challenges the traditional approach to automotive retailing,” Snell said.

As with all of its long-term plans, Infiniti Cars Australia has applied a deliberate and structured approach in securing its chosen retail partners. The company is keeping an uncompromised focus on ensuring customers receive an outstanding luxury experience and it is currently applying this same approach to the second phase of its retail strategy. Snell and his team are currently conducting extensive research to identify the right high-calibre retail partners in Perth and Adelaide. They have already received a number of expressions of interest from a variety of potential candidates but will not decide until all suitable partners have been considered.

The announcement also coincides with Infiniti’s ongoing retail expansion plans across Europe, where additional Infiniti centres have recently opened in Spain, France and Luxembourg. In fact, a new Infiniti centre has opened in Europe every two weeks since the brand’s launch there in 2008.

From August, Infiniti will commence sales in Australia with the first of many models, the Infiniti FX performance cross-over and the stunning Infiniti M sedan. The Infiniti G Coupe and G Convertible, two exciting cars for lovers of driving, are scheduled to hit Australian roads in December.
