The IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) version of the Lotus Evora adds a six speed automatic gearbox to the Evora that allows the driver to switch between manual paddle shift and automatic drive modes. The driver also has the option of selecting ‘sport’ mode which showcases the Lotus sport driving experience allowing the driver to really feel each gear shift and be in complete control of the transmission. Based on a Toyota gearbox for durability and reliability, the IPS gearbox has been provided with a new computer programme developed by Lotus specially to suit the Evora and its drivers. This means that while it offers the ease of use and convenience of a conventional automatic, its responsiveness and its effective application of performance is exactly in line with the Lotus Ethos. Lotus took the Evora and re-created it with a 257.5 kW 3.5l V6 engine to create the Evora S and now, with the IPS gearbox, the Evora S IPS. With a Harrop HTV 1320 supercharger assembly utilising Eaton Twin Vortex Series (TVS) Technology developed by Lotus, performance is lifted into the supercar bracket, with a 0-100 kmh time of 4.8 seconds for the manual and 5.0 seconds for the new S IPS and a top speed of 277 km/h and 266 km/h for S and S IPS respectively. Yet, thanks to the advanced light weight engineering pioneered by Lotus, the Evora S still offers fuel consumption that borders on economy car, with 7.4 l/100 on the open road and a respectable 9.9 l/100 km on the combined cycle for the S and 6.9 l/100 on the open road and 9.7 l/100 km on the combined cycle for the Evora S IPS. The Lotus Evora S IPS debuts a range of more than 120 improvements that benefit the entire Evora range for the 2012 model year. These include a new exhaust system with a switchable valve system to provide a richer, stronger exhaust note above 4,700 rpm or at all times with the sport mode engaged. A new high grade of leather is used in the Evora range offering a new supple finished with a deep, rich finish to the touch, completed by the Lotus logo stitched into the seat back with the leather trim now extending to new areas of the upper dashboard. Other improvements include red brake calipers, new floor mats with leather piping and embossed logo, a new design of steering wheel provides greater aesthetic appeal with the S variant of the Evora denoted by a gunmetal finish on the steering wheel and the dashboard. On the manual Evora a new close ratio gearbox is fitted as standard, activated by a new gearknob. Bi-Xenon headlights are now standard, as are colour matched door handles. The new Lotus Evora S IPS joins the Lotus range with a price of $150,990 excluding statutory charges, delivery and dealer costs. The 2012 Evora range opens at $123,990 excluding statutory charges, delivery and dealer costs for the Evora 2+2; the new Evora 2+2 IPS is $128,990 excluding statutory charges, delivery and dealer costs and the Evora S 2+2 is $145,990 excluding statutory charges, delivery and dealer costs. |
The Lotus Evora S IPS has arrived in Australia, combining for the first time in a Lotus the performance of a 257.5 kW supercharged engine with the ease of use and high speed response of a self-shifting gearbox.
