04-04-2012 at 09:00: ARC Looks to Spark Bright Future

The Bosch Australian Rally Championship has announced it is considering a new class for electric vehicles to contest rallies all over Australia in coming years.

The new class is likely to be called REVOLT, or Revolutionary Vehicle of Light to signify the bold step to introduce cars that will spark interest and switch people’s thinking.

The new class will hopefully attract a new generation of electric cars to the championship as the Bosch ARC’s new manager of REVOLT Hugh Veevbenhad explained.

“There are still a range of technical issues to overcome including the provision of electrical charging stations at the end of stages, however we are confident that we will be able to deliver a new electrically powered class to the Bosch ARC sometime in the next decade,” said Mr Veevbenhad.

Mr Veevbenhad has a background as an electrical engineer and in motorsport as a competitor before a shocking accident ended his driving career. Since then he has concentrated on bringing low emission vehicles into motorsport, something he says has given him a real charge.

While REVOLT at this stage has no firm commencement date the new electric vehicle class will provide competitors with a long lead time before it is plugged into the Championship.

“I don’t think we would be fooling anybody if we said that we would hope to have REVOLT up and running by 1 April 2015,” said Mr Veevbenhad.

“We will give competitors ample time to get ready no matter Watt,” Hugh added.

“Some might think this is a foolish move but we believe it is visionary and will plug rallying into the future,” he added.

As Mr. Veevbenhad pointed out the timing of the announcement is significant and will go down as a major day in the history of the sport as the date when Rallying got REVOLTING.

CEO of the Bosch ARC Scott Pedder said there was little he could say except to wish all POWER to Hugh Veevbenhad.
