It was a battle until the very end, but young gun Jason Kendrick came out on top, defeating American Shane Stewart to take out the 50th WA Sprintcar Title last weekend at the Perth Motorplex. Kendrick has enjoyed a successful season so far with two wins earlier in the season, but his latest feat has seen him develop into the mature driver he is now. Stewart tried everything he could to take the win from Kendrick, but a last minute slide job to grab the lead failed him, losing momentum and ending up back in fourth place. “I knew I was in third and I just drove past Stewart and thought I guess I am the winner,” said Kendrick. Jamie Maiolo got some good ground having started in 12th, he added to his healthy AHG Sprintcar Series points by finishing in second place. “We came from 12th to end up second, we are pretty happy,” said Maiolo. Despite his win, Kendrick fell another five points behind the leader – courtesy of the two heat race wins to the Myalup based Maiolo. There are only two more rounds left for the season, both at the Perth Motorplex. The annual Silver Cup will be held on Saturday April 7 followed by the season finale Gold Cup on Saturday April 21.
