06-03-2012 at 08:00: IPRAQ Season Starter

Production cars are the starting point of any good race car. One way or another many of the race cars seen on TV have come from a production car heritage. In saying that, there is nothing wrong with improving a production car just a little bit to make it better.

The Improved Production Racing Association Queensland (IPRAQ) had their official launch on Sunday at Repco Capalaba and showed the public what the class is all about.

As the name suggests the class is modelled on production based touring cars that have been “improved” for racing purposes.  The category regulations are concise yet allow quite a high level of modification.

The level of modifications permitted and the relatively inexpensive nature of the class provide a foundation that allows both the racer and designer ample opportunity to create a fast and exciting form of racing car.

The drivers come from all walks of life and with them come a verity of makes and models they choose to race. From Datsun’s to BMW’s and the age old Australian battle, Holden vs Ford, the production cars make for some really exciting racing.

The 2012 season will kick off this weekend (10-11 March) at Morgan Park Raceway in Warwick, Queensland and the championship will consist of six rounds. The end of the year will see IPRA clubs from all over Australia come together to battle the best of the best in the IPRA Nationals, this year being held in Tasmania.
