17-02-2012 at 08:00: WSS Grand Final

The last 14 rounds of the World Series Sprintcars have all been leading up to this weekend’s Grand Final weekend at the Perth Motorplex.

Current leader, James McFadden will be in the hot seat this weekend and looking to finish his top position with the ultimate grand final win on Saturday night.

Wary of his competition in American driver Jason Johnson, McFadden is realistic about the challenge ahead of him.

“I don’t think we can do it actually. James and his team have done a tremendous job this year and they deserve the Series win,” said McFadden.

“We’re not going to give up by any means, but I would think it’s not really possible to run him down without him going on a holiday before the final round.”

Local driver Kerry Madsen won’t be here to contest the top drivers having returned to the US, his brother Ian Madsen will be driving in his place.

“We wish Kerry well in the American show this weekend and he will be back to defend our Krikke Boys Memorial in Bunbury pretty soon,” said team boss Geoff Kendrick.

“In the meantime we have spoken to Ian’s car owner and his team has allowed Ian to substitute for us this weekend – we are grateful for their support.”

40 cars will battle it out for the $20,000 cash prize, with American drivers Kaley Gharst, Jason Johnson, Shane Stewart and Tyler Walker looking to take the trophy back to the US.

The Grand Final will be held on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th. Gates open at 4:30pm with first heats at 6:00pm on Friday and 5:15 on Saturday.
