06-02-2012 at 08:00: World Rally Champion Tests Ferrari FF

With the Ferrari FF arriving in Australia and New Zealand, former World Rally Champion Markku Alen has been demonstrating another facet of the abilities offered by Ferrari’s latest supercar in the frozen north of Sweden.

Most four wheel drive systems, especially those in high performance cars, when confronted by tough road conditions, offer no more than the ability to traverse them slowly and safely. Of course the Ferrari FF offers this ability, with its unique four wheel drive system in its snow setting, however the remarkable Ferrari 4RM four wheel drive system working hand in hand with the F1 Trac system may also be put in its other settings allowing the driver to enjoy the road conditions while still staying in full control of the Ferrari FF.

With Markku Alen in action on Ferrari’s winter test track, it is clear that Ferrari FF remains an immensely enjoyable car to drive, despite conditions that bring most other supercars to a halt, let alone encourage enthusiastic driving.

At temperatures between -15° and -30° Celsius at the Arjeplog track, in Northern Sweden, about 100 km South of the Arctic Circle, the steep inclines and challenging corners of the 14 km “Forest” track, Markku Alen was able to test the FF to extremes, particularly the car’s traction on surfaces with extremely low grip.

Thanks to the perfect weight distribution and the car’s mechanical set up, the FF again demonstrated its safety, stability and performance, and, more crucially Markku commented that the FF is especially enjoyable to drive in these conditions, even for a former World Champion who was Finnish ice track specialist and winner of the World Rally Championship in 1978.
