17-01-2012 at 08:00: New Generation GS Range

Lexus has confirmed that it will introduce the GS 250, as debuted at the Guangzhou Motor Show late last year, to the next-generation Australian GS range.

The addition of GS 250 will see Australian offered three powertrain variants, with GS 350 and 450h already confirmed.

Headlining the range will be a new 252kW, direct and port injected, Atkinson cycle quad cam 3.5L V6 hybrid in the GS 450h, which is expected to be 20 per cent more fuel efficient that the outgoing hybrid*.

It is expected that the GS 450h will sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.9^ seconds and it is expected to consume just 6.2L of fuel per 100km*.

New to the range and replacing the 183kW 3.0L V6 is a new 3.5L quad cam V6 featuring direct and port injection developing 233kW.

Despite its larger capacity, the new-to-GS 350 engine will use less fuel than the outgoing model and rocket the GS 350 to 100km/h in just 6.0 seconds.

Now confirmed for Australia and providing greater choice for new GS customers is a 2.5L quad-cam V6, developing 154kW of power.

The all-new GS 250 model will accelerate to 100km/h in just 8.6 seconds and feature an electronically controlled six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shift and throttle blipping on downshift in manual mode, providing an engaging drive.

All models will be available in F Sport guise, offering greater dynamic and visual enhancements over standard models.

Lexus Australia chief executive Tony Cramb said that the all-new GS range will provide a wider array of choice for customers.

“The new GS range will cater to a wide variety of customers: those looking to enter the luxury sports sedan market with GS 250, all the way to those who don’t wish to sacrifice performance for economy with GS 450h,” said Mr Cramb.

“This greater range of choice will be bolstered by F Sport variants, which will cater for those who want to extract that little bit extra out of their vehicle, be it driving enjoyment or visual appeal.

“Unlike our rivals, Lexus will offer the F Sport range across our entire model and driveline range, giving consumers greater choice.

“In fact, just because you don’t necessarily need the power of a GS 350 or 450h doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy looking at or driving your vehicle.”

The all-new GS range will launch in Australia in the second quarter of 2012 with the prices and model range available closer to launch.
