23-01-2012 at 09:00: Bowe Defending Title

Amidst the hype of preparations for season 2012 is always the off season talk of who’s going where or if they will return to a championship. The good news for the Touring Car Masters is reigning champion John Bowe has stood firm to quash rumours that he is parting ways with the ever-popular muscle car category.

“Dick Savy (Savy Motorsport) is completing a full engineering refresh, while Scott Yorston has given her (Bowe’s Mustang) a fresh new look, not losing her well established identity, so with all onto the task we’re giving ‘Sally’ a complete makeover”, said Bowe.

“I wouldn’t do all of that if I wasn’t continuing in TCM. I love racing these old cars and people love watching them so it really suits where I am at in my racing life.

“With no data, no grip, and only moderate brakes, it’s like being back in the old days when I watched these cars as a kid.”

Having experienced great successes in his time with one of Australia’s favourite racing series, Bowe closed season 2011 on a high sealing the series title at the final round, to wrap up his 40th year in motorsport with some impressive statistics including 12 race wins, four round wins, five pole positions, three lap records, and having led more competitive race laps than any other competitor.

As his muscle machine undergoes a full revamp ahead of what is set to be an even greater title challenge this year, Bowe too has had some repairs during the off season, having received long-required surgery on his right hand tendons, hoping to return to the driver’s seat with even more control and consistency.

There’s no doubt Bowe is as keen as ever to hit the track with his Touring Car Masters family.

“I’m really looking forward to racing with Jim (Richards), Glenn (Seton), Andrew (Miedecke) and all the other competitors who may not be as well-known but are certainly just as much fun.

“The series has a unique environment so put simply; I’m not going anywhere but back to the TCM paddock and can’t wait to drive Mustang ‘Sally’ again.”
