20-12-2011 at 09:00: Hankook Gets the Nod from Toyota

One of the world’s most demanding car makers has given Hankook Tire its seal of approval.

Toyota has begun fitting Hankook tyres as original equipment (OE) to its innovative iQ micro-premium car, which is sold in European markets.

It marks the first time Hankook has supplied tyres to Toyota, which is known for its strict quality control and extraordinarily high demands on suppliers.

The contract to supply iQ is the result of several years of testing and validation.

“Through our continuous efforts and commitment towards R&D we were successful in demonstrating the high quality of our products,” said vice president of Hankook Tire’s Global OE Division, Woo Byung-Il.

“Toyota’s pursuit of high-end vehicles is widely-known so we are extremely thrilled to finally support iQ as original equipment manufacturer.

“I am positive that our common ground in quality will accelerate a stronger partnership and synergy between the two companies.”

With the addition of Toyota, Hankook now supplies tyres to the world’s five biggest car manufacturers, including General Motors, Volkswagen, Renault-Nissan and Hyundai Motor Group.

In addition, the BMW Group recently selected a new high-tech, low-rolling resistance Hankook tyre for factory fitment to its iconic Mini Cooper S model.

The all-new Ventus Prime2 is also supplied to the MINI factory in Oxford, England, as an optional set for the One, Cooper and Cooper D models.

The Hankook tyre uses a new type of hybrid silica tread compound with novel hybrid polymer chains and nano particles.

The compound generates an exceptional degree of traction on wet surfaces while also improving fuel efficiency.

Ventus Prime2 also features a newly-developed tyre contour, which results in a significant reduction in rolling resistance compared with its predecessor.

Hankook Tire says the original equipment (OE) supply deals with Toyota and the BMW Group’s MINI brand are milestones as it seeks to become the world’s fifth-largest tyre-maker by 2015.

“The BMW Group is known around the world for its cars with the highest technical standards and for its long tradition of sporty, dynamic automobiles,” said Woo Byung-Il.

The Ventus Prime2 is now available in Australia in a limited range of sizes.
