30-11-2011 at 08:00: Williamson Wins Asian GT4 Series

Leura based driver Mark Williamson continued his success racing in Asia when he wrapped up the Asian GT4 Championship at the recent Macau Grand Prix.

illiamson drove his Concord Energy Aston Martin to 2nd place at the world’s most daunting street circuit to clinch the title, his second international Championship in the last three years.

This was Williamson’s first race back from injury he suffered at a recent race at Autopolis in Japan where a brake failure resulted in a high speed crash and some broken ribs. At Macau he was happy to return straight back on the pace.

The 2011 championship was held over 11 rounds and the series win came courtesy of two victories at Fuji in Japan and four at Sepang in Malaysia. The series also visited Suzuka, Japan, which is a circuit that every driver wants to race on and resulted in two second place finishes.

Williamson’s team Concord Motorsport was also successful, wrapping up the team’s title with the help of fellow Australian team mate Simon Waters, who finished second in the series.

Third place was Hong Kong based Scotsman Nigel Farmer.

The NSW Blue Mountains driver will now prepare for 2012 with Concord Motorsport in Asia, hoping for more success.
