19-10-2011 at 08:00: Sprintcar Racing Season Promises to Be Best Yet

Sprintcar action returns for the 2011/12 Super Speedway Season at Perth Motorplex on the evening of Saturday 22nd October.

Headlining the Sprintcars program will be defending Grand Opening Showdown title holder Shaun Bradford.  He will face stiff competition from reigning SEG and Perth Motorplex track champion Jamie Maiolo and fellow USA based New South Wales veteran Kerry Madsen.  World Series Sprintcars Top Gun Steven Lines from South Australia will also race in the opening night program.

Local throttle stomper Bradford is excited about the launch of the new Sprintcar season, and is hoping to follow his Grandfather Noel Bradford’s steps by one day taking out the Australian Title.

“I’m feeling really positive about the year ahead. I won the Grand Opening Showdown last year and I’m hoping I can kick the season off by doing the same this year. We will be bringing new cars and even better gear to the track so I can’t wait to get into it,” said 25 year old Bradford.

Reigning Track Champion Jamie Maiolo was also looking forward to the series ahead, and for his chance to take out his seventh Sprintcar Championship.

“It should be a good competition this year. There are four or five Perth based guys out there who will put up some serious competition,” said Maiolo who has been racing for 12 years.

Sprintcar young guns Jason Kendrick, Brad Maiolo, Nathan Brady and Callum Williamson will also set out to establish their reputations against their more season rivals. Sprintcar Entrant Group spokesperson Sheldon Brady is excited about the new talent coming through the local sprintcar scene.

“This season is going to be one of the best yet, especially with the development of some of our younger drivers. The West Australian public can expect plenty of action from the 2011/2012 sprintcar events. As always, there will be loads of thrills, spills and crashes. Add to that some of the country’s biggest sprintcar showdowns and you have yourself one adrenaline pumping series,” said Brady.

The AHG Sprintcar Series will travel throughout the state of Western Australia right up until the Gold Cup Grand Final in April 2012, visiting regional locations such as Collie, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Albany, Manjimup, Northam as well as the main Perth Motorplex in Kwinana. Throughout the month of February, WA will host the best Sprintcar drivers from Australia in six World Series Sprintcar events including the Grand Final at Perth Motorplex.

Perth Motorplex Speedway Promoter Gavin Migro said that a huge night of Super Speedway action was lined up to introduce the twelfth season of Australia’s number 1 domestic Sprintcar Series. “This Saturday’s Grand Opening Showdown will see 26 of Australia’s best drivers racing at Australia’s premier track. We are very excited and proud to be a part of the AHG Sprintcar Series for another year,” he said.

The opening night of the 12th season of Super Speedway at the Perth Motorplex will also feature Super Sedans, Speedcars, Formula 500s and Junior Sedan competiton.
