06-10-2011 at 10:00: Loeb to be Placed In a Museum

Citroen’s world beating rally driver, the seven-time World Champion Sébastien Loeb, is to be placed in a museum, where 800,000 people may inspect the talented driver every year.

The talented Mr Loeb, who has re-written just about every record in the World Rally Championship is not retiring and placing himself on display so that his vast legion of fans can pay homage to his skills.

Rather, Loeb, who was made a knight of the Légion d’honneur in 2009 by French president Nicolas Sarkozy, is being immortalized in wax by France’s equivalent to the London institution, Madam Tussards, with a life size wax model of the rally driver being prepared for display at the Mussee Grevin in Paris.

It has taken six months to create Loeb’s wax double from his first rendezvous with sculptor Stéphane Barret and the workshop team, with the driver taking time off between events to pose for the life-like model.

”I’m very flattered to be part of the Grévin museum,” says Loeb.

“It’s an honour and also recognition for our branch of the sport as one that’s representative of France. I must say that I was very impressed by the amount of work that went into creating my figure in wax. It was really unbelievable!”

Everything has to be studied down to the tiniest detail with the star driver so that the resemblance is almost disconcerting. This includes the colour of the hair, the eyes, the skin, handprints etc – nothing was left to chance to make Sébastien Loeb even more lifelike than he is in reality!

Loeb’s wax double will be on show beside rugby player Sébastien Chabal and basketball player Tony Parker in the section of the museum dedicated to sports people. The driver will appear in his driving suit in the colours of Citroën and their partners.

But the real test will come when the wax model is inspected by the person who spends more time with Loeb than anyone else. Not his wife, Séverine or their daughter, Valentine, but his co-driver Daniel Elena, with whom he spends thousands of hours not just on events but travelling and preparing for competition and with whom he has shared all his victories.

The Grévin, a private museum created in 1882, is in Paris on the ‘Grands Boulevards’ and welcomes almost 800 000 visitors per year.
