13-10-2011 at 09:00: Chrysler & Jeep Launch MotoGP Support

Chrysler Australia has announced its debut sponsorship of the 2011 IVECO Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, taking place this weekend at the legendary Phillip Island circuit.

As a Vehicle Supply Partner to the event, a range of Chrysler and Jeep models will have a presence on and off the track, where Aussie Casey Stoner looks set to wrap up the 2011 World Championship.

Six high-performance Chrysler 300C SRT8’s will play an important role as Course and Medical cars, as well as transporting the Clerk of Course and FIM Steward around the iconic circuit. Chrysler Grand Voyagers will also support as Medical Intervention vehicles.

To celebrate Chrysler’s sponsorship, the Course Cars have been given a very special treatment. Even though the SRT8’s 6.1 litre HEMI V8s deliver 317kw, 569Nm, low five second 0-100 acceleration and Brembo braking as standard, Chrysler have outfitted them with some Mopar Performance.

The Mopar enhancements include a cold-air intake system feeds cooler air directly into the intake manifold, whilst a mandrel-bent 2.75-inch stainless exhaust system and dual mufflers take care of the spent gases with a throaty growl.  To guide the Course Car drivers around the flowing circuit with precision is Mopar’s fully-adjustable coilover suspension kit, with anti sway bars providing even great steering response and handling.

Australian 4×4 of the Year, the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee, will roam off-track looking after Grand Prix VIPs, media and commercial activities. The six Grand Cherokees and a Wrangler Unlimited have been kitted out with striking graphics, including a motorcyclist ‘sitting’ in the back seat, complete with Jeep helmet and leathers.

“It’s fantastic to be a partner of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and to launch our presence at Phillip Island”, said Dean Bonthorne, Senior Manager, Marketing & Corporate Communications, Chrysler Australia.

“The Jeep mantra of ‘Don’t Hold Back’ is a great fit with the brave spectacle of MotoGP, and the Mopar-enhanced Chrysler 300C SRT fleet will be sure to entertain the crowd between races. We can’t wait for this weekend and hopefully a Casey Stoner victory”.

The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix’s title sponsor IVECO is owned by Fiat, also parent company to the Chrysler and Jeep brands.

With 2011 marking Jeep’s 70th Anniversary, Chrysler Australia is celebrating with a wide range of motorsport partnerships including Greg Crick’s ‘Jeep’ branded Dodge Viper in the Australian GT Championship and Lee Bektash with his Team Mopar Prostock Drag Racer.
