29-09-2011 at 14:00: Toyota Engine Powers to Victory

Lola-Toyota and Rebellion Racing have won the manufacturers’ and teams’ titles in the hotly contested Le Mans Series championship.

The cars feature chassis technology from Lola and a 3.4-litre V8 petrol engine supplied by Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG), the Toyota RV8KLM.

Lola-Toyota’s inaugural LMP1 series win is the culmination of a season-long battle with the Pescarolo-Judd outfit.

The Lola-Toyota LMP1 cars secured back-to-back wins at Imola and Silverstone and five podium finishes in just eight Le Mans Series starts.

Series success comes less than a year after the team’s Lola-Toyota test car completed its first evaluation tests in Spain and Portugal.

Lola-Toyota’s Andrea Belicchi and Jean-Christophe Boullion were vice-champions in the drivers’ championship, just three points adrift of the crown.

TMG president Yoshiaki Kinoshita said he was proud to share the manufacturers’ title with Lola.

“From the beginning, our co-operation with Rebellion and Lola has been very fruitful and a great experience for everyone involved,” Mr Kinoshita said.

Rebellion team manager Bart Hayden said the partnership with TMG had been a significant step forward.

The Toyota engine’s designation is derived from racing V8 (RV8), which has been used for Toyota racing engines for several years.

Toyota’s Formula Nippon engine is the K specification. This has been modified by TMG for Le Mans, adding the initials LM to arrive at the full designation of RV8KLM.

The 32-valve dual-overhead-cam 90-degree V8 develops more than 370kW despite the mandatory air-intake restrictors used for the series.
