28-09-2011 at 08:00: Ssangyong’s New Utility Concept Unveiled in Frankfurt

Ssangyong’s new concept ute, the SUT-1 has appeared again at the 2011 International Motor Show in Frankfurt.

Following the launch of the initial concept form of the vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011, the latest version of the utility is more indicative of what the production model will look like when it is released in Australia in the second quarter of 2012.

“Ssangyong is looking forward to the release of the new utility next year. Its bold new styling, upgrades to engine and transmissions, and the addition of ESP are sure to broaden it’s appeal and increase demand for the model.” says Jeff Barber, general manager of Ssangyong Australia.

The new ute combines modern design with a traditional utility body, balancing the needs of load volume with an attractive looking dual cab ute.  It will appeal to a wide variety of drivers with its large 2m2 ute tub that caters for outdoor enthusiasts needing room for their gear, business owners, trades people and those in need of a hard working utility.

Drivers have the option of either rear wheel drive or  electronically switchable four wheel drive coupled to six speed manual or automatic transmissions, all offering highly competitive economy. The engineering of the SUT-1 focuses on efficiency, with the diesel engine complying with Euro 5 emissions standards resulting in the increased economy.

Typically found on full-size SUV models, the new ute has a combination of double wishbone and five-link suspension, and newly designed engine mounts which minimise vibration in all driving conditions and give the new vehicle a premium feeling.

Also on display at the 2011 International Motor Show was Ssangyong’s XIV-1 concept car, an innovative new compact crossover model. The XIV-1 combines the more robust attributes of an SUV with the affordable running costs of a small family car. Warranting much attention is the interior’s unique user interface that incorporates smart mobile devices in the cars control systems.
