01-09-2011 at 07:00: QRDC Returns to the Park

The state’s premier amateur motor racing competition, the Queensland Raceways’ Drivers Championship (QRDC) launches into its fourth round for 2011 at Lakeside Park on the weekend of Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11.

The 2011 Queensland Raceways’ Drivers Championship consists of five rounds – three at Queensland Raceway (March 5/6, July 9/10 and November 12/13) and two at Lakeside Park (April 30/May 1 and September 10/11). As we get into the business end of the racing season for each of the categories, fans can expect start to finish thrills and spills with super competitive racing on the fast, flowing Lakeside circuit.

QRDC Round Four contains an amazing schedule of categories with five groups of tin tops, plus clubmans and open wheelers.

Leading the way for the enclosed vehicles is the fierce Ford v Holden battle of Saloon Cars Queensland. As with the V8 Supercars series, Saloon Cars Queensland is made up entirely of Falcons and Commodores but in this case they run highly tuned six cylinder engines in the iconic Aussie family sedans.

With this being round six of seven for the Saloon Cars season, the fight for end of year trophies will see these big Aussie sixes pushed to their limit in very, very tight nose to tail battle packs.

Another category that never fails to deliver exhilarating racing is the Improved Production Association of Queensland. With a broad assortment of vehicles from V8 Commodores to Ford Escorts, Toyota Corollas and turbocharged Nissan Silvias, Improved Production provides action-packed racing with fascinating battles unfolding throughout the field as they vie for class points and hard-fought bragging rights. Look out for the lightweight Nissan Silvia of Aaron Lawrence and Mazda RX-3 of Justin Keys challenging the brute force of David Skillender’s six-litre Commodore for the chequered flag.

And if that isn’t enough excitement to keep race fans clamouring for a vantage point, how about a dose of the legendary HQs, the mighty Holden Geminis or the thundering American big iron of the Australian Trans-Am Championship? Then, to spice things up even further, Queensland Raceways’ Drivers Championship Round 4 throws in the venerable Formula Vees and the PLR Clubman and Sports Car Championship. This really is unbeatable value for the spectator dollar, at only $20 per person, per day.

Run over two action-packed days, Queensland Raceways’ Drivers Championship Round 4 will see qualifying and racing on Saturday, with a full day of racing on Sunday.

On track action will kick off at 9am and run through to 4pm. Entry is $20 per person payable at the gate (with children 12 years and under free).
