06-09-2011 at 08:00: MAXYrally Team Ready for Rally Australia

After competing in Quit Targa West in the teams Hyundai i30 CRDi, the MAXyrally team of Razvan Vlad and Daymon Nicoli are getting back into the Group N Ford Fiesta ST to take part in Rally Australia, their first World Rally Championship event.

Daymon is leading the 2WD Navigators’ Australian Rally Championship and the Premier League. At 16, he will be the youngest competitor in the rally, but that does not stop him from having high hopes for the event.

“The Fiesta is well suited to the roads in Coffs Harbour and our goal is to win our class”, said Daymon.

Razvan, who is now second in the 2WD Drivers’ Championship, is also looking for a strong finish.

“We did not have a great rally in South Australia and my main goal this week is to regain the top spot in the championship. I will also try to win our class in the WRC event, where we are up against a similar Ford Fiesta ST, but that will be a thought for the third day of the rally. For the first two days, my competition will be John in his Holden Commodore and I will be keeping a close eye on his times.”

Following a small off road excursion at Rally South Australia, the Fiesta was in need of some panel beating, and the crew at Absolute Panel and Paint in Coffs Harbour were ready to bring it back to its showroom shine.

The car was ready with nearly two weeks to spare and the team is planning to test it soon after their arrival in Coffs Harbour. Some of the regular service crew could not make it to Coffs, so the Fiesta will be looked after by a new and enthusiast team.

Daymon’s brother, Brock, will again be tasked with cleaning the wheels and checking the rear of the car and at 12 years old he may be one of the youngest registered service crew members, but when the heat is on he can definitely do his job!

It is a dream come true for Razvan and Daymon to compete in the WRC, and with only 6 Australian crews entered in the event they are proud to fly the flag for the local rally supporters. The organizers expect a large number of spectators for all three days, which will definitely be a boost for the team.
