26-09-2011 at 07:00: Dirt Bike Riders Rev it Up For Kids With Cancer

Motocross and enduro riders across Victoria are revving up their engines in preparation for one of the most unique events on the dirt biking calendar – the KTM Ride4Kids. Now in its 10th year, Ride4Kids brings together the dirt bike community for the biggest motorcycling charity event in the country, raising funds for Challenge, a not-for-profit organisation supporting children and families living with cancer.

Held on Sunday 23rd October at the Victorian State Motorcycle Sports Complex in Broadford, Ride4Kids is a full day of riding where participants can opt to ride in either Motocross or Enduro events. Various sessions will take place throughout the day, starting with the 50cc juniors through to the open class of thumping 450 big bores.

Race ambassador and recently retired Factory KTM road racing champion, Shannon Johnson, said the event is a great opportunity for riders to have a great day out on a professional track while raising much needed funds for children and families living with cancer.

“Meeting families who’ve lost children from cancer tears my heart out and I want to do all I can to raise as much money as possible for Challenge. The emphasis of Ride4Kids is on having fun. All sessions are an open practice format with no actual racing on the day so people of all ages and abilities can get involved. Participants can get friends and family to sponsor them on the day, by asking for a donation and recording it on their sponsor sheet or by setting up an online fundraising page,” Johnson said.

The three highest fundraisers from each of the combined motorcycle classes will be rewarded with some great prizes from event sponsors with the overall highest fundraiser walking away with a 2012 KTM 350EXCF thanks to KTM Australia, valued at $13,500. In addition, all riders who raise over $100 online will receive a free KTM Ride4Kids t-shirt.

Those not interested in getting on a bike can still show their support. There will be a BBQ lunch, as well as raffles with some fantastic prizes up for grabs and guest appearances from some of Australia’s pro riders.
