Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the maker of Subaru vehicles, has announced it will name its pending rear-wheel drive sports car the BRZ.
FHI says it will exhibit a technology concept of the BRZ at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
FHI has derived the BRZ name from the letter B in Boxer engine, R in rear-wheel drive, and Z in the word Zenith.
The name embodies ultimate passion for the new sports car and confidence in its distinctive constellation trademark and core technology – the horizontally opposed Boxer engine.
BRZ production is due to start in the northern spring of 2012.
A decision on whether the BRZ will come to Australia will not be made until later this year.
