Mark Butcher loves to drive and offers to teach people his skills through his business, Driver Skills Australia. Alongside his passion for driving is his love of motor sport. The 2011 Australian Rally Championship has seen Mark and his team push their older Subaru WRX rally car to the limit and take a fourth place in his first year of competition. In between working and prepring his rally car for the next event, Mark took some time to answer ADM’s driver questions. Name: Mark Butcher Q: Who are your motor racing heroes? Colin McRae and Ken Block Q: Most liked race track/event? So far – probably Rally SA as this was the best event for us in the ARC so far. Q: The best moment in racing you have had so far? Being 4th outright in the 2011 ARC after 3 rounds on our small budget in a car I built myself. Q: Your ideal non-race weekend? Anything relaxing with the family. Love to get away on a boat on the Broadwater (QLD) when we get a chance. Q: What was your first car? Suzuki Swift GTi Q: When was your last infringement notice and what was it for? Had a few warnings – but no fines/points for over 7 years J Q: What is your favorite high? Having a good, clean stage with no mistakes. Q: Who is your dream date? A night out for dinner and then maybe see some live music. Q: Which film do you enjoy the most? Talladega Nights Q: Is there anything you are afraid of? Letting people down. Q: What was the last book you read? 4 Hour Work Week – Tim Ferriss Q: Name five things that you hate? Liars, Trouble Makers, Lazy People, Doing things twice and Not getting enough sleep! Q: Have you ever dyed your hair? Black for Rally Oz 2009 Q: What did you’re teachers say about you in your school reports? That I get easily distracted and talk to much – isn’t that all kids?? Q: Do you have any guilty pleasures? Oreo biscuits.. I can eat them until I feel sick haha Q: Do you collect anything? Bills… lol – I like model cars, planes and boy stuff. Q: What was your worst buy? First car – Ford Cortina POS Q: How do you take your coffee? White with no sugar. Q: What’s the most embarrassing moment you’ve ever had? Lots of them – but certainly bumping into one of my staff while driving (long story!). Q: What is the best thing that you can cook? Tasmanian Salmon with Mango and Lime Q: When was the last time you were really angry? Every time I get on the scales. Final Word: Life is short – Live like today is your last day on Earth and have no regrets. I can never understand people who hold back or scared to chase what they want. No one is stopping you so get off the couch and make it happen! |
