28-07-2011 at 07:00: Willowbank Gearing Up for Mopar Action

Willowbank Raceway will host the 9th annual ‘Mopar Sunday’ this Sunday, July 31. Mopar enthusiasts will have the chance to either watch or take part in a range of events including drag racing, a dyno shootout, show and shine and a swap meet.

Old school Muscle cars like the Dukes of Hazard Charger will feature alongside modern muscle cars such as the Chrysler 300C and Dodge Challenger, along with all sorts of machines from the collective Mopar family, which includes Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge.

The event will include ANDRA Pro Series Pro Stock front runner, Lee Bektash – who was top qualifier for the recent Castrol EDGE Winternationals.

Mopar Sunday promoter Sam Tatton believes that fans will enjoy seeing the old versus new aspect of the event.

“We have Mopar’s of all ages and seeing the evolution of these cars is impressive, as well as seeing that the classics can still hold their own,” he said.

Willowbank Raceway is home to some of the best drag racing events in Australia and managing director, Steve Bettes, is excited to showcase the annual Mopar Sunday, with the support of Chrysler Australia, Mopar Australia, Albion and Leo Muller Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Shannons Insurance and Surf City Garage Car Care.

“Willowbank Raceway has always strived to bring diverse and interesting events to the venue and Mopar Sunday is a broad ranging event with a number of elements that will please those who want to race, but also those that wish to celebrate muscle cars,” said Willowbank Raceway Managing Director, Steve Bettes.

“With a swap meet on site as well, there’s plenty of opportunity to pick up some memorabilia, that part you’ve been looking for or generally just catch up with fellow Mopar enthusiasts.”

Mopar Sunday will take place at Willowbank Raceway this Sunday, July 31, spectator entry and is $25. Gates open at 7am on the day for an event start at 8am and the events wind up at 4pm.
