05-07-2011 at 10:00: VW Show ‘n’ Shine

Volkswagen Group Australia has made a number of announcements and revealed some new models to their line-up.

The highly anticipated second generation Touareg made its debut at the Volkswagen stand to great applause. The luxury SUV offers a high level of comfort, sporty driving properties and offers typical excellent quality.

While the new Touareg maintains all the virtues of space, comfort, refinement and off-road and towing ability which made the first generation so popular, Volkswagen takes the model forward thanks to the use of lightweight construction techniques, more fuel-efficient engines and new technologies.

Clean new styling draws inspiration from the design direction established by the Golf and new Polo – the new Volkswagen Design DNA. Despite being lower and thus appearing sleeker, the new Touareg is larger than the previous model. It is almost 50 millimetres longer in wheelbase, its overall length has increased by 144 millimetres, yet it weighs up to 90 kg less and is up to 20 percent more fuel-efficient.

This drive in efficiency is further epitomised by the standard fitment of a remarkable new 8-speed automatic transmission. A choice of new options is also available including an advanced Driver Assistance Package which incorporates a range of features such as Lane Assist, Side Assist and ProActive Occupant Protection System.

All new Touaregs will feature BlueMotion Technologies including brake energy recuperation and Start/Stop functionality.

In order to satisfy market demand within Australia, Volkswagen elected to introduce the next generation Touareg as early as possible. As such, Model Year 11 and Model Year 12 Touaregs will be available in 2011, both of which will have different specifications.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles announced the launch of its Caddy Maxi Life and the Caddy Maxi Van now available wi th innovative 4MOTION all-wheel drive technology.

4MOTION technology combined with the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) was first introduced to the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle range with the facelift of the T5 Transporter and People Movers. Now this sophisticated technology is available on the Caddy Maxi vehicle range further cementing its position as a market leader.

The driving force of the Caddy’s all-wheel drive system, 4MOTION, is distributed via the latest generation of electronically controlled Haldex clutch. The Caddy 4MOTION will be offered with the highly-efficient 2.0 litre TDI engine, delivering 103 kW of power and 320 Nm of torque at 1,500 to 2,500 rpm.

The Caddy 4MOTION is available in two versions. A long wheel base panel van in the form of a TDI320 Caddy Maxi Van 4MOTION or as a people mover, the seven-seater TDI320 Caddy Maxi Life Comfortline 4MOTION. Both models are fitted with dual sliding doors, as standard.

The versatile Caddy range is the only model in its market segment which has an efficient six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) with Hill Start Assist as standard. Moreover, unique to this market is the extended wheelbase offering a significantly increased cargo capacity.

The TDI320 Caddy 4MOTION’s 2.0 litre engine delivering 103 kW is extremely fuel-efficient. Powered by this engine, just 6.7 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres for the Caddy Maxi Van and 6.8 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres for the Caddy Maxi Life (177 g/km CO2 / 179 g/km CO2) are required.
