18-07-2011 at 07:00: Strong Finish for Reeves at Whangarei

Australian rally driver, Brendan Reeves, has finished this weekend’s International Rally of Whangarei in New Zealand in sixth place.  The rally, round 4 of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship, provided plenty of tough competition and Reeves started the event cautiously, still getting a feel for his leased Mitsubishi Evo IX and getting the set-up suited to his driving style.

A puncture on the event’s third stage resulted in some time lost, but by the end of Saturday’s eight stages, Reeves, and his co-driving sister Rhianon Smyth, had upped the ante and were in 9th place overall.

Reeves started the second day of competition as if it were a new event and throughout Sunday’s eight stages he consistently set top five stage times.  Clawing back time on his competitors throughout the day, the young Australian fought his way back up the leader board to finish fourth for the day and sixth overall in the outright event results.

“I learn’t a lot about the car today and really enjoyed the competition,” Reeves said.

“Rhianon did a great job again, along with the whole team. We also scored strong team points for Brian Green Motorsport, so it was a very worthwhile weekend.”

Reeves used the rally as preparation for his next event, Rally Finland, which takes place in a fortnight’s time.  Reeves and Smyth will fly straight from New Zealand to Europe for the rally which is round three of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Academy, a six-round series in Europe in which they are competing this year.
