20-07-2011 at 07:00: Scouts ‘Do It All’ Again

Scouts SA have once again taken up naming rights for the Rally of South Australia, the third round of the Bosch Australian Rally Championship.

Scouts Rally SA will be three days of exciting motor sport including two special stages at the Woodhouse Scout Activity Centre and rally and moto action at Mount Crawford, all within a short drive from Adelaide.

Woodhouse in particular is an exciting development, with the Scout Activity Centre hosting two stages of the rally, providing spectator friendly facilities very close to Adelaide.

This is the third year Scouts SA has been involved in the Rally of South Australia starting as a platform sponsor in 2009 before becoming naming rights sponsor in 2010.

Scouts have had a long association with rallying in Australia with many leading drivers, including current Australian Rally Champion Simon Evans, being members of the Scouting movement, some gaining their passion for motorsport while in Scouts.

The partnership is more than just a matter of Scouts injecting funds because it involves direct participation by local Scouts in the running of the Rally of SA and provides Scouts Rally SA with additional credibility and continuity as well as adding stronger community focus to the event.

“The aim of scouting is to encourage the physical, intellectual and social development of young people so that they may take a constructive place as members of their local communities,” said Dan Ryan, Scouts SA CEO.

“Getting our Scouts involved in many levels of a national motorsport event will serve that aim very well, and provide many relevant opportunities and experiences.”

Event Director and Clerk of Course Ivar Stanelis says that he is delighted to be continuing association with Scouts SA.

“It is exciting to have continuing ties to the largest youth development organisation in South Australia, and I am confident it will be beneficial to both organisations,” said Ivar Stanellis.

“There are interesting parallels between the Scout movement and rallying – both involve high levels of teamwork, leadership, adventure and challenge.” he said.

Opening Woodhouse to the competition is a particularly creative idea and will cement Scouts SA as an organisation where it’s members really do “Do it all!”

The Scouts will showcase their own motorsport activities at the Woodhouse Special Stage, the Scout Recycling Centre will also come into play at all venues, whilst there will be many opportunities to fill volunteer roles at all levels during the event.

Scouts SA prepares young people for business and community leadership and aims to help them achieve their full potential. Goals, principles and values, and further information are at www.sa.scouts.com.au.

Scouts Rally of South Australia will be held in the Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills and Mt Barker regions between July 28 and 31. It will double as the third round of the 2011 Bosch Australian Rally Championship and Round three of the South Australian Rally Championship, and the popular Classics will return at the head of the field.
