01-07-2011 at 13:00: QRDC Fires Up QR

The state’s premier amateur motor racing competition, the Queensland Raceways’ Drivers Championship (QRDC) launches into its third round for 2011 at Queensland Raceway on the weekend of Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10.

The 2011 Queensland Raceways’ Drivers Championship consists of five rounds – three at Queensland Raceway (March 5/6, July 9/10 and November 12/13) and two at Lakeside Park (April 30/May 1 and September 10/11). Round two provided start to finish thrills, spills and super competitive racing and round three looks set to deliver even more!

Round three contains an amazing schedule of categories with five groups of tin tops and three of open wheelers.

Leading the way for the enclosed vehicles is the evergreen Improved Production Association of Queensland. With a broad assortment of vehicles from V8 Commodores to Ford Escorts, Toyota Corollas and turbocharged Nissan Silvias, Improved Production provides action-packed racing with fascinating battles unfolding throughout the field as they vie for class points and hard-fought bragging rights. Look out for the hard-charging 6litre Commodore of David Skillender and the BMW M3 of Jason Clements to be at the pointy end of the pack, jostling for podium spots.

Whilst it’s still another month until the rumble of V8 Supercars at Queensland Raceway, the Ford v Holden battle will be just as intense when racers from Saloon Cars Queensland take to the Ipswich circuit. Running highly tuned six cylinder engines these racing versions of the iconic Aussie family sedans are pushed to their limit in very, very tight nose to tail battle packs. While the AU Falcons had the edge over the VT Commodores at Lakeside Park earlier this year, look out for the GMH machines to bounce back at QR.

And if that isn’t enough tin top excitement to keep race fans perched on the pit wall, how about a dose of the legendary HQs, the mighty Holden Geminis and a mixed QR Sports and Sedans category? Then, to spice things up even further, Queensland Raceways’ Drivers Championship Round 3 throws in the open wheelers – Formula Ford, Formula Vee and QR Racing Cars. This really is unbeatable value for the spectator dollar.

Run over two action-packed days, Queensland Raceways’ Drivers Championship Round 3 will see qualifying and racing on Saturday, with a full day of racing on Sunday.

On track action will kick off at 8.30am and run through to 4pm. Entry is $20 per person payable at the gate (with children under 12 years free).
