The 33rd annual Australian 4 Day Enduro (A4DE) is finally kicking off this week after bad weather forced its postponement earlier this year.
Almost 200 world class enduro racers have entered the event and within this collection are 6 of Queensland’s finest female riders.
Due to the extreme weather conditions in Queensland and around Australia, Queensland enduro riders have had a slow start in 2011 and the girls have not been able to get in the desired amount of preparation time.
As usual, the girls are determined to not let the lack of racing get the better of them and are heading into the event with positive thoughts and smiles on their faces.
There are high hopes for current Queensland enduro champion, Jemma Wilson, who is excited to be racing in her home state supported by family and friends.
“This year will be my 6th A4DE and I am yet to get the illusive first place”, said Wilson.
“Hopefully this year will be it for me, but if not there is always next year”, she stated with her usual positive attitude.
Wilson will be competing alongside fellow Queenslander and long time enduro racer, Alison Parker, who has won the women’s class at the A4DE on 4 occasions and has also competed all around the world.
Along with the big names in the enduro racing scene like Wilson and Parker will be Queensland motocross star, Tamara Gray, who will be competing in the event for the first time.
The other 3 Queensland women who will be tackling the A4DE are Tania Hearn, Lana Stiller and Chelsea Gray.
Hearn and Stiller have competed in the Australian 4 Day Enduro before, both managing to achieve top 5 results. Chelsea, alongside sister Tamara, will be competing for the first time.
There will be 10 women competing in the 4 day event and with 6 of them being Queenslanders; Queensland has already made a big impression.
The Australian 4 Day Enduro is the biggest off-road motorcycle endurance race in the southern hemisphere and starts on the 7th of July and continues on until July 10th in Mackay, Queensland.
