27-07-2011 at 07:00: Peugeot Honoured with Design Award

Peugeot have been honoured with a design award for their compact SUV, the 3008. Last Friday saw the brand accept the prestigious “Design Award” presented by Good Design Australia in recognition for design excellence.

The 3008 redefines the traditional notion of an SUV by combining passenger car refinement and advanced technologies and is positioned at the crossroad between several existing vehicles: the SUV, the MPV and hatchback with a versatile, raised architecture body style.

Brandon Gien, Managing Director of Good Design Australia said all entries underwent a thorough physical inspection assessing form, function, quality, safety, sustainability, innovation and best in class design.

“Award winners are the result of unwavering dedication to good design and commitment to a professional design process. Innovation, creativity and attention to detail are clearly at the heart of each project.” Gien said.

The judges also commented: “The Peugeot 3008 – a beautiful car packed with clever features including a panoramic glass roof. Why aren’t all SUVs like this one?”

The 3008 has enjoyed more than its fair share of international acclaim since it was launched, gaining notoriety throughout European markets by winning numerous awards including Auto Europa Award and What Car’s Car of the Year last year.

Accepting the award at the gala event was Mr Robin De Michelena, Australia & NZ Regional Manager for Automobiles Peugeot.

“Through its non-conformist approach and its resolute styling, the 3008 offers an original solution and optimal versatility to customers – those in search of modernity, practicality, peace of mind and driving pleasure. Protective, versatile and innovative, the Peugeot 3008 – an SUV in all respects – opens up new motoring horizons“.

Peugeot’s stunning RCZ was also honoured last Friday with a “Good Design” by the Australian International Design Awards. More than just the embodiment of a concept car, the RCZ sports coupé marked a new stage in the line-up of Peugeot’s “leisure vehicles”, whilst also being the first Peugeot product to benefit from the latest Peugeot Lion brand identity.

In 1958, a small group of design and industry professionals established the Industrial Design Council of Australia (IDCA). Today, more than fifty years on, the Australian International Design Awards – a division of Good Design Australia – continues this proud tradition to recognise the best in design and innovation available to Australian consumers.

“Peugeot could not be more delighted with this honour, as it recognises both high quality and innovation – two very important aspects of the automotive manufacturing process for Automobiles Peugeot,” said Mr De Michelena.
