27-06-2011 at 11:00: Subaru’s Eyesight Takes AIMS

Subaru’s stand at the Australian International Motor Show, Melbourne from July 1 – 10, will display the brands third-generation safety system, EyeSight™.

Australia will become the first overseas market for the advanced technology, which has already achieved major sales success in Japan.

EyeSight uses minute stereo cameras located in a single compact unit near the rear-view mirror, to recognise a variety of potential road hazards and alert the driver.

EyeSight is a driver assistance system combining active, passive and preventative safety technologies.

The system underlines Subaru’s long-term safety commitment, which includes independent five-star ratings for occupant safety across its entire range, from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: “We’ll have an Eyesight-equipped Outback on display at the show and a video that show’s it’s amazing capabilities.

“We believe Subaru is the first Japanese brand to offer such a comprehensive camera system and there are some aspects of the technology that have previously only been available in premium cars that are around four times more expensive.”

Other Subaru technologies on display at the show will include the new generation horizontally opposed Boxer engine with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
